Mark Starmer gave afcdiamonds.com a squad update ahead of this weekend’s ChromaSport and Trophies United Counties League Division One game against Wootton Blue Cross.
He has seen a very positive reaction from the squad to the atmosphere at last weekend’s game, and reported that as a result they were “buzzing” at training this week, and looking forward to this weekend’s game.
Alex Deakin has had the nose operation he mentioned when he joined the club, so will be unavailable for up to 6 weeks.
Séan McBride is unavailable this week due to a family issue back in Ireland, and Jake Gillingwater is away on holiday.
The injury absentees last weekend – Peter Okechukwu, Troy Johnston and James Allcock have all been back in training this week and will be available for selection this weekend.
The only new concern is a slight issue with Joe Merrill who has a swollen knee due to an insect bite.
Looking ahead, Mark mentioned that keeper James Broadbent will resume his studies down on the South Coast in September, but should still be available if needed. Meanwhile he hopes to arrange for keeper Ashley Foulger to get 90 minutes of first-team football this weekend / next week with a suitable club.
Catching up with other squad news, Luke Pritchard has joined Shepshed Dynamo of the UCL Premier.
