Diamonds beat a young Northampton Town side 3 – 1 in a rearranged pre-season friendly at The Dog and Duck, Wellingborough on Tuesday night.
Returning Ben Diamond notched his 4th pre-season goal in just the 2nd minute heading home from a corner. Diamonds impressive first half display was rewarded with a 2nd goal before half-time. Joel Gyasi broke away and crossed for Tom Lorraine to tap in for his 4th in pre-season.
Cobblers had largely the better of the second half with one particularly close effort deflected just wide. Diamonds were solid in defence though and managed the game well before adding a 3rd on 72 mins. Matt Slinn’s excellent free-kick was turned into his own net by Josh Flanagan with Alex Collard closing in. Cobblers were awarded an 88th minute penalty which Joseph Mills converted for a 3 – 1 final score.
A crowd of 690 enjoyed an excellent game of football and respected a lovely minute’s silence for the much missed Max Griggs.
Next up for Diamonds a trip to Dunstable Town on Thursday before Daventry Town visit Hayden Road on Saturday afternoon.
