Diamonds were held to an entertaining 2 2 draw in their latest pre-season friendly at Dunstable Town on Thursday evening.
Will Jones starred again with 2 goals in the opening 20 minutes as Diamonds played with attacking intensity from the off. He guided home a neat header from a left wing free-kick on 8 minutes and smashed home a superb strike from 18 yards on 19 minutes.
Dunstable arguably put Diamonds defence under the most pressure in pre-season in an end to end style.of game. After being denied a number of times by excellent cover defending and in form Ben Heath, Tyler Fry headed home in style from an excellent free-kick to make it 2 1 at half-time.
Diamonds were bright again in the opening stages of the second half with Will Jones coming close to a hat-trick as he ran through on goal but just dragged wide. Dunstable equalised on 59 minutes a little against the run of play as another free-kick was converted from the centre of the box by a volley this time. Diamonds continued to press for a winner with trialists prominent after Will Jones and Lorrell Smith went off injured but couldn’t fashion the killer chance to win an entertaining game.
Next up for Diamonds the visit of Daventry Town to Hayden Road on Saturday afternoon.
