AFC Rushden & Diamonds take on AFC Kempston Rovers on Thursday evening in what, on paper at least, looks like being an evenly matched contest. The two sides met at Hillgrounds Road earlier in the season and played out a 1-1 draw; match report HERE.

The Diamonds were not in NSYL action last week, but as a result of their defeat at home to league leaders Cogenhoe United the previous week have slipped to fourth in the league table. Kempston sit just one place lower, four points adrift but with three games in hand.
With the break in league action, Rushden’s last match was of course the abandoned friendly against FootballCV Reds in which captain Danny Bird suffered a serious injury which will keep him out of this week’s game. Kempston’s last match was a 3-2 league defeat at home to Woodford United, but their previous game saw them win in emphatic style with an 8-1 victory away to Northampton Spencer in the first round of the League Cup.

The game could see the competitive debut of new signing James Harrison, who joined recently from Rushden & Higham United. Manager Mark Starmer will have a pleasant selection headache however, as Harrison will be competing for a starting place up front along with top scorer Lewi Williams, October’s Player of the Month Jeron Thompson, and the club’s other recent signing Mason Thomas, who impressed in his substitute appearance against Cogenhoe.

The Diamonds will line up in their usual white and blue home kit, while the visitors will wear their home strip of red and white stripes.
