Long Buckby AFC v AFC Rushden & Diamonds
Friendly Fixture
Tuesday 7th August 2012 – 7:45pm
Station Road, Long Buckby NN6 7QA
AFC Rushden & Diamonds hit the road for their penultimate pre-season friendly on Tuesday evening when they travel to the western edge of the county to face UCL Premier champions Long Buckby AFC.
Although the Bucks were UCL Premier winners last season, but were denied promotion and have had a number of changes of both management and playing staff over the summer. They play at Station Rd, Long Buckby (NN6 7QA), with their ground next to the Rugby Ground – their social club is easy to spot although the ground itself is away from the main road. As the name suggests the ground is situated between the village and the railway station, and there is parking in the village centre or at the station as well as in a number of side streets – but please be aware of the parking restrictions on the grass verges.
Admission Prices for this game were still to be defined by Long Buckby at the time of going to press.
Our Opponents
The Bucks won the UCL Premier Division last season after a record breaking run of 16 straight league wins at the start of the season. They went on to also break the points total for the league, but Kings Lynn, who they beat twice on their way to the title were the team accepted into the step 4 leagues due to ground grading issues at Station Road.
The club was formed in 1945, and AFC R&D assistant manager Andy Peaks was in a similar role with the club for a period. A number of ex-R&DFC players were with the club last season, including Tim Wooding in a coaching capacity and keeper Darren Watts. Their club colours are all-claret.
