Sam Brown – Extended Unavailability

AFC Rushden & Diamonds can now confirm that defender Sam Brown will shortly be unavailable for an extended period. Sam is planning to travel abroad extensively in the near future, and so will be parting company with the club (hopefully temporarily), after being at the Dog & Duck since the very first Diamonds senior game in 2012. It is anticipated that Sam’s last game will be the home fixture against Arlesey Town on Saturday January 2nd.

Sam has played over 150 games for the Diamonds, making the left-back role his own as the club won promotion from Step 6 to Step 4.

Diamonds’ Manager Andy Peaks commented: “Of course its a a shame to lose Sam. He has been immense from the very reformation of the club, but he’s a young man and wants to see a bit of the world and we wouldn’t stand in anyone’s way. He knows he’s very welcome to come back when he returns, whenever that is”.

Andy commented further after the game at Bedford Town on Boxing Day “Sam is not leaving the club on a permanent basis – he will remain registered with us. Hopefully he’ll miss us too much and come back, perhaps as soon as the start of next season.

“Sam Brown has epitomised everything that’s good about the club – he’s been outstanding – whoever plays in his place will find it hard to step into his shoes.

“He’s been brilliant for the club – we wish him well. I see him as a possible future captain of the club.”
