It’s the showpiece event in the Northants FA Calendar tonight – the NFA’s equivalent of the Super Cup! The Diamonds reward for beating Kettering Town in the Hillier Senior Cup Final is a home tie against Peterborough United U21. Both teams are playing for the Maunsell Cup, with the Diamonds looking to win it for a second time, having previously won it in 2016.
A proud night for the Club’s youth development programme with 5 players starting who have come through the various arms of the pathway. Full senior debuts this evening for 17-year-old Ewan Evans who has been with the Club since the age of 10, and 16-year-old Sheku Koroma, also from the Academy U18’s. A first senior start for another 16-year-old Milad Ehsani, who has featured off the bench for the first team in recent months.
FULL TIME: DIAMONDS WIN THE MAUNSELL CUP for the first time since 2016.
A thoroughly entertaining game of football played in a great spirit. All the goals were in the first half with Peterborough taking the lead before a rapid fire double from Cairo Taylor and Romeo Ingman secured the win. Diamonds were mostly on top second half, but weathered some late pressure.
Some great performances from the young lads involved tonight 💎
