We are thrilled to announce that the Club’s all-time record goalscorer, Tom Lorraine, will be rejoining AFC Rushden & Diamonds ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Tom, or ‘Shanks’ as he’s known around the Club, will need no introduction to supporters, having hit 100 goals in 307 appearances between 2014 – 2021. The double promotion winner has spent time at Daventry Town and latterly Cambridge City since leaving the Diamonds, but returns to provide some experience to Chris Nunn’s young squad. Tom will no doubt be looking to become the Club’s all-time record appearance holder this coming season.
Supporters may recall that Tom was present at the Members’ Forum in October and subsequently assisted the Club’s board with the recruitment process that ultimately resulted in Chris Nunn’s appointment. Chris was very familiar with Tom from previous encounters against the Diamonds and had this to say about bringing him back to AFC Rushden & Diamonds: “I keep mentioning the environment we are trying to create and the importance of having the right people around it and Tom ticks a lot of boxes. He’s experienced, he’s been around the Club before and I just felt with the forward line we’ve got now, with young, exciting players, they can learn from Tom. It gives us different options and a well-rounded forward line with different types of players within it. I think this is a really good signing for the Club and I’m delighted he’s joining us again.”
Tom spoke to AFCRDTV about his return to the Club and was raring to get started: “Chris gave me a ring a few weeks ago and said he’d like to have me back if I was interested. Obviously, I was! Ultimately as a centre forward I’m here to score goals and hopefully I’ll be able to contribute heavily to that this season. I’ve been playing in the Northern Premier League for the last couple of years and it’s going to be tough. It’ll be a challenge but with the squad Chris is putting together I know we can cause damage to these teams. Hopefully I can offer my experience and support to the young squad and I’m excited to get going.“
