AFC Rushden & Diamonds 5-2 Milton Keynes College
Friendly
With the U18s final league game of the season cancelled at late notice due to their opponents, Oxford City, not being able to field a team, the club hastily arranged a friendly match against manager Mark Walsh’s Milton Keynes College side. With Walsh on the visitors’ bench, the Diamonds were led by Assistant Manager Dean Thomas.
Rushden ran out 5-2 winners in a terrific game, with both sides playing their part in the entertainment. The hosts led 2-1 at half time thanks to goals from Zach Farden and Blake Helsdown, but MK College replied just before the break with a fine solo goal from Alex Dixon.
The Diamonds stepped up a gear after the break, turning in their best performance for several weeks, storming into a 5-1 lead through Jake Reynolds (2) and substitute Matt Foster, Reynolds first goal a stunning 25 yards strike on his weaker left foot. The visitors replied late on through Nasir Hamen, who tapped home after a powerful 30 yard strike had been parried by Michael Brimah.
