UCL Knockout Cup Final – Monday 4th May

Potton United v AFC Rushden & Diamonds

Kick Off 3pm

Leading Drove, Yaxley PE7 3NA

United Counties League Knock-Out Cup

Monday 4th May 2015

After their successful league campaign in the UCL Premier, the Diamonds have a chance to complete the league and cup double on Bank Holiday Monday afternoon when they travel to Leading Drove, Yaxley to face Potton United in the UCL Knockout Cup Final.

The UCL organise their end of season showpiece at a neutral venue, and they also handle the administration of this game. The tie will be decided on the day, with extra-time and penalties if required.

There is a modern clubhouse at Yaxley and a seated area alongside the pitch. There is a tarmac parking area at the ground as well as two overflow areas.

Admission to the game is £6 adults / £3 concessions.

With this being the Diamonds last game of the season there are a couple of accolades to be finalised. The leading goalscorer accolade and most appearances accolade are both somewhat in the balance. Matt Gearing (15) is making a late charge up the goalscorer list behind Jason Turner (17) and Tom Lorraine (18). Liam Dolman and Brad Harris have both made 47 appearances to date, and Liam is just ahead in the total minutes played (4081) ahead of Matt Finlay (4050). You can find all the details along with all of the season’s stats here.

Our Opponents

Potton United FC was formed in 1943, and joined the South Midlands League after the war. They remained there for 10 years before joining the UCL Premier where they remained until relegated shortly into the new millennium.

This has been a very successful season for the Royals, with wins over three UCL Premier sides in the UCL KO Cup, including Thurnby Nirvana and Holbeach United, as well as challenging for a promotion spot behind Northampton Spencer in UCL Division One. They finished their league campaign with an 8-0 victory over S&L Corby, which cemented a position in third place in that division.

The Potton club nickname is the Royals, and their current club website is here, with their twitter feed here. They are still managed by Darren Staniforth who was in charge when the clubs last met. They play in an all-blue strip.

In the 2012-13 season the two sides met in UCL Division One, with a tight game at Potton at the end of April decided by two Jake Newman goals, following a narrow 1-0 win for the Diamonds at the Dog & Duck earlier in the season, courtesy of a goal from Jack Wisniewski.

Sam Brown and Matt Gearing both played in that most recent game at The Hollow, with Brad Harris and Joe Merrill joining the action from the bench. Those four players all started for the club in the first game between the two sides.

How to Get There
