Wellingborough Whitworth v AFC Rushden & Diamonds

AFC Rushden & Diamonds make the short trip to face their neighbours Wellingborough Whitworth in the United Counties League Cup on Tuesday evening. After the disappointment of their FA Vase exit on Saturday, this is the only Cup competition that remains for the Diamonds this season.

Details of the competition, including the full draw are here.

Admission prices for the game have been set at £4 adults, £2.50 concessions.

Our Opponents

Wellingborough Whitworth FC, or Whitworths as they are often known, were formed in 1973 with a basis of players from a Sunday League team known as the Victoria Millers.

The Flourmen have played at Victoria Mill in London Road since their formation. They joined the UCL in 1985, and have remained in Division One since then. They have had an impressive season to date, with several big wins propelling them towards the top of the UCL1 table, including a 7-0 win at league leaders Lutterworth Athletic. They are currently the top scoring team in UCL Division One.

They are managed by ex-player James Daldy, and ex Diamonds player Deven Ellwood has returned to Victoria Mill. The Diamonds beat the Flourmen 5-3 after extra time in the UCL Knock-out Cup in season 2012-13 – report here.

Getting There

Those familiar with finding the Dog & Duck will, of course, have no problem finding Victoria Mill as they now share an entrance road, with their entrance gate being a little further on.
