Wisbech Town v AFC Rushden & Diamonds

AFC Rushden & Diamonds make another trip to the east when they travel to face Wisbech Town at the Fenland Stadium on Saturday afternoon. With this game due to be followed by two other games against teams from the top end of the table the Diamonds will be looking to reinforce their challenge for the title in the next fortnight ahead of their entry into the FA Vase. With Wisbech having the next biggest fanbase after the Diamonds there should be a good atmosphere at the Fenland Stadium on Saturday, and the Fenmen manager Dick Creasey has been calling for the home support to be their “12th Man“.

Last season the admission prices were £7 adults, £5 concessions (OAPS & Students), £2 12-16s & Under 12s free. There was free car parking at the stadium, but the club asked that fans do not park on Lynn Road as this could cause traffic problems, or on Windmill Gardens or Old Lynn Road/Kirkgate Street to minimise disruption to local residents.

Our Opponents

Wisbech Town are known as the Fenmen, and were formed in 1920, joining the UCL in 1935. They have then moved to the Eastern Counties League, the Midland League, the Southern League and then were relegated back to the Eastern Counties League in 2002 They moved to the Fenland Stadium in 2010, and the ground has covered terracing behind each goal as well as a stand with over 100 seats. At the end of the 2012-13 season they transferred from the Eastern Counties League to the United Counties League rather than taking the promotion to Step 4 they had earned by finishing in runners-up spot in that competition.

They are led by Dick Creasey, and they play in all red. They have chosen to move from a website to a Facebook presence, but their original website is here, and the twitter feed is here.

After a slow start to the season they have matched the Diamonds recent good run with a string of league wins which has included a 2-0 win over Yaxley, punctuated by sharing eight goals with Thurnby Nirvana.
