Our Opponents
According to their website, Wootton Blue Cross was formed in 1887 and is one of the oldest clubs in the UCL. Its name was reputedly brought to Wootton when the manager of the disbanded Hitchin Blue Cross joined the Club.
The Club initially played in the Bedford and District League before joining the South Midlands League in 1946 where they won the league title in 1947/48 and finished runners up in 1949/50. Wootton joined the United Counties League in 1954, winning the league title in 1967/68 and 1969/70. In 2007/08 the Club had four different managers and were relegated after 38 years in the Premier Division.
They are managed by Charlie Standish, and their club colours are blue. They lost their first game of the season on Saturday 2-0 at Wellingborough Whitworth. Their club website is here.
Directions to Weston Park
For directions to Weston Park (MK439JT) see here, with the trip being around 20 miles each way. Note that there have been some changes to local roads in the area – the A428 and A421 if you are relying on an old SatNav or Map book. The ground is quite well hidden, even though it is close to the main road through the village – the club website advises you look out for the Post Office to help spot a narrow drive up to the ground. Car Parking at the ground is restricted to registered disabled badge holders only, so fans will need to find alternate parking. To assist in this, Wootton Upper School in Hall End Road (MK43 9HT) has made their parking facilities available – see here for a map of how to get to the ground from there. Please park with consideration for local residents.
Those preferring to use public transport can take advantage of various Stagecoach Bus day passes when using Stagecoach Bus 50 between East Northants and Bedford and then Stagecoach 53 to Wootton from Bedford Bus Station – which stops very near the ground (Potters Cross stop in the centre of the village). For more details, maps and specific journey plans use the Traveline website. Bus 53 travels through Kempston (going via Hillgrounds Road), for those who might want to park there and use the bus for the latter part of the journey.
