Leading Drove, Yaxley PE7 3NA
Kick-Off 7:45pm
ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division
Tuesday 19th November 2013
Yaxley FC v AFC Rushden & Diamonds
AFC Rushden & Diamonds return to league action on Tuesday evening when they travel to face Yaxley at Leading Drove, in the ChromaSport and Trophies UCL Premier Division.
Many Diamonds fans will have visited Leading Drove last season, where the two teams met in the FA Vase.
The village of Yaxley is just south of Peterborough– click here for a map and directions from the Dog & Duck to the ground (PE7 3NA). Note that there are currently roadworks in Holme Road, and you will be met with a “Road Closed – except for access” sign – but the actual closure is just past the turning for Leading Drove, so you can go around the closure notice / bollards to access the ground.
Pricing for this game is £6 adults, £3 concessions. There is a club bar on site, as well as on-site parking with overflow parking nearby – please follow stewards directions for parking. There will also be a burger van on-site with the facilities open from 6:30pm.
Our Opponents
Yaxley Football Club was formed in 1900 as Yaxley Rovers, and after playing mostly in the Peterborough district leagues they stepped up to the Eastern League in 1988, and after a move to the West Anglian League they won promotion to the United Counties League in 1995, quickly winning promotion to the Premier Division where they have since remained.
The Cuckoos play in blue shirts and shorts, and are managed by Brett Whaley. Further details about the club can be found on their website here. Their Twitter feed is here. Ex-R&DFC striker Andy Furnell plays for the Cuckoos.
Yaxley have recovered from the early disappointments of being knocked out of both the FA Cup and FA Trophy by local rivals Peterborough Northern Star to climb to fourth in the UCL Premier, six points ahead of the Diamonds. They halted the good run of Wellingborough Town in their last home game, and since losing narrowly to Spalding they have won their last four games, keeping clean sheets in each game, scoring a total of 14 goals. Last season they finished 12th in the UCL Premier.
Direction to Leading Drove
For a map showing directions for the trip of around 31 miles to Leading Drove see here. Note that some maps show a different section of Leading Drove, and the postcode will not lead directly to the ground – once in Yaxley the local directions from the UCL handbook are as follows:-
Leave A1 at Norman Cross and travel towards Peterborough. Turn off A15 at traffic lights. Bear immediately right and go past cemetery. At bottom of hill turn right into main street, then left in to Holme Road. After short distance go over small bridge and turn left between house and bungalow onto Leading Drove. Ground is on left hand side.
Note that there are currently roadworks in Holme Road, and you will be met with a “Road Closed – except for access” sign – but the actual closure is just past the turning for Leading Drove, so you can go around the closure notice / bollards to access the ground.
Please also note that the right-turn after the traffic lights is immediately at the junction, so you turn across traffic queuing for the lights.
With it being a night game public transport is not really an option, although the ground can be reached on Stagecoach bus 7 from Peterborough to Yaxley – either the Askew’s Lane or Church Street stops are a short walk from the ground. For more details see the Traveline Website.
