September 2013 Player of the Month – Russ Dunkley

Following a poll on AFCDiamonds.com, the winner of the September 2013 Player of the Month award is Russ Dunkley. Russ picks up the monthly award for the second month running following his contribution to the Diamonds series of cup games during a month without any games in the UCL Premier Division. He polled over 50% of the votes cast.

The month started wise the Vase Tie against AFC Dunstable, where Dunkley scored a brace in the replay.

That was then followed by the FA Cup Tie against Cockfosters, where Dunkley scored in the away game, then netted five headed goals that earned him the FA Budweiser Player of the Round award.

Two further goals in the Vase game against Hoddesdon Town were complemented by a number of “assists”, including in the victory against Cambridge City in the FA Cup.

The award is sponsored by P.W. House Jewellers of Rushden, who are continuing a long tradition of sponsoring this award, going back many years with R&DFC. Their business has been part of life in Rushden High Street for the last 60 years.

The award was presented by Diamonds’ Manager Mark Starmer before the game against Huntingdon Town on Tuesday evening.

The poll for the October 2013 Player of the Month has already been held, with the award presented to the winner in due course. The poll for the November award will be accessible on AFCDiamonds.com shortly after the final game of the month.
